Drop Everything and Read Programme

The children today live in a world which is completely different from the one which we all grew up in. Due to the excessive exposure to technology children today have completely given up on reading. But, reading has a lot of benefits and so we have also started the Drop Everything Read Programme (DEAR)

The following activities are done in the Dear Programme:
  • Books are given to the children to take home every Friday.
  • The follow up of the same is done on Mondays from the class library through various activities like.
  • Show and tell
  • Draw a cartoon character
  • Narrate your own story on the basis of the story characters
  • Giving them imaginative ideas with open ended questions e.g. what if one character goes missing and let them build their own stories.
  • At the end of the year, each class will make their own story book
  • Every child is gifted with a book on their birthdays
  • Every Friday a story dramatization takes place
  • Puppet shows are held regularly
  • Big story books are made by the teachers
  • The DROP period is held every morning for 15 minutes and everyone including the children, teachers, admin staff and the Multi tasking staff has to drop all their work and read something.
